Platinum Members

Purpose

To provide an instrument for non-exclusive funding by Individuals and Organisations to sponsor Internet Society activities and projects in designated areas.

Scope

ISOC maintains focused activity in four major areas: (1) Standards, (2) Education & Training, (3) Public Policy, and (4) Member Services. Platinum sponsors may designate annual contributions to be dedicated without prejudice. Examples within each area are described below in Appendix I.

Benefits

  • The opportunity to designate funds for sponsorship of specific Internet activities and projects.
  • Special recognition and acknowledgment on ISOC's web site and all publications.
  • The right to use the ISOC logo and a statement of Platinum sponsorship status in your Organisation's marketing and promotional materials.
  • The opportunity to display your company/Organisation logo prominently on the ISOC web site, in multiple locations.
  • Two representatives on the Internet Society's Advisory Council.
  • A listing in ISOC's online directory of Organisational Members and Sponsors, with a link to your Organisation's home page
  • Complimentary copies of Internet Society Conference proceedings.
  • Participation in Governance of ISOC via selection of up to 6 Board of Trustees members with voting weighed by membership level.
  • Provision of major financial and Organisational support for the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
  • Participation in and support for ISOC's worldwide Education programs.
  • Participation in development of ISOC's global Public Policy positions.
  • Joint press release announcing new membership
  • Support for publishing "The Internet Report", a series of concise developments within IETF
  • Publishing "Briefings" to educate the public and media on basic issues of the Internet Industry.
  • Support for publishing "The IETF Journal" - an overview of what's happening in the world of Internet standards; published 3 times per year.

Fees

Platinum sponsorship annual fees are US$100,000 and are discounted 50% for non profit Organisations. Fees will be paid annually on a specified anniversary date. Fees may be paid directly to the Internet Society at the address below, or to its bank via wire transfer.

Disposition of Funds

Funds will be placed in a restricted account, as determined by the designation made by the Platinum member, and will be used for the purposes so designated. Each calendar year, ISOC will provide a report on the use of the designated funds.

Appendix I - Examples of ISOC Activities

  1. (1) Standards - RFC Editor, scholarship funding for needy IETF participants to attend meetings, activities of the IAB, IESG, IRTF, special workshops of the IETF, travel for IETF related activities, "errors and omissions" insurance coverage for IESG, IAB, and Working Group Chairs, communications charges for conference calls of the IAB, IESG, and IRTF;
  2. Education & Training - Network Training Workshops (NTW) for developing countries, Sustainable Internet Training Centers (SITC) within developing countries, workshops and tutorials, forums and seminars, "visiting experts" program, scholarships for needy individuals to attend ISOC sponsored educational oriented events;
  3. Public Policy - Forums for discussion, debate, and development of Internet public policy, travel, communications, and research costs associated with the development of position papers, white papers, and statements on Internet policy issues, third party funding of designated ISOC public policy projects, annual "State of the Internet" report;
  4. Member Services - Activities of the ISOC Chapters Council, activities of the ISOC Advisory Council, specific Fiesta activities, forums and discussion lists, scholarships for needy members to attend ISOC sponsored events, chapter assistance, publications.
